A study plan for B2 on the TCF Canada
Vocalyra teaching team · Last updated:
The TCF Canada tests listening, reading, speaking and writing. This guide is about how to prepare, not a copy of the exam. Check the current format and score requirements on the official France Éducation international website and the Government of Canada website before you book.
Vocalyra provides independent preparation and is not affiliated with or endorsed by France Éducation international. A B2 level does not by itself guarantee any immigration outcome; programs set their own requirements.
1. Know your starting point
Take a placement test first. If you are at A2, you need to build B1 and B2 skills before exam technique helps much. If you are around B1, targeted practice and mocks can make a real difference.
2. Train each skill on purpose
- Listening: short daily audio at your level, then slightly above. Answer first, then read the transcript to see what you missed.
- Reading: practise locating information fast and understanding the writer's opinion, not only the facts.
- Speaking: rehearse describing your life, asking questions to get information, and defending a point of view for a few minutes.
- Writing: write short messages, then structured opinion texts with connectors; get feedback on recurring errors.
- Grammar and vocabulary: focus on what blocks you in the four skills, not grammar for its own sake.
- Dictation: trains listening and spelling together and exposes the endings you do not hear.
3. Add exam conditions gradually
Practise untimed first, then timed sections, then full mocks. In mock conditions, listen once, no pausing and no answers until the end — the aim is to get used to the pressure.
Sample week (about 8–10 hours)
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| Mon | Listening practice (40 min) + vocabulary review (15 min) |
| Tue | Grammar lesson on a weak point + dictation (45 min) |
| Wed | Speaking: record a 3-minute opinion, listen back, redo (40 min) |
| Thu | Reading practice + connectors review (45 min) |
| Fri | Writing: one opinion text with feedback (60 min) |
| Sat | Timed section or full mock (every 2–3 weeks) |
| Sun | Review mistakes from the week; plan next week |
4. Use results to decide the next step
After each mock, list recurring error types and plan the next week around the weakest skill. Practice scores are estimates; only the official exam gives an official result.
