Task 1: directed interview
You talk with an examiner you do not know about yourself and your surroundings. It tests whether you can interact simply and naturally about familiar topics.
How to prepare
- Prepare topics, not sentences: work, studies, family, home, free time, plans.
- Practise short answers extended with one reason or example.
- Record yourself for 2 minutes and check you keep talking without long pauses.
Answer framework (not a script)
- Answer the question directly.
- Add one concrete detail.
- Add a reason, feeling or example.
- Stop and let the examiner continue.
Common pitfalls
- Reciting a long memorised self-introduction.
- One-word answers.
- Not asking for repetition when you did not understand.
Practice prompts (Vocalyra original practice)
Task 2: interaction with preparation
In an everyday situation you ask for information. The roles of candidate and examiner are specified. It tests whether you can obtain what you need by asking relevant, polite questions.
How to prepare
- Use the 2 minutes to list 5 or 6 information points to ask about.
- Prepare question forms: est-ce que, inversion, quel/quelle, combien, Ă quelle heure.
- Plan how to open and close the exchange politely.
Answer framework (not a script)
- Greet and state why you are calling or coming.
- Ask your questions one by one and react to each answer.
- Ask a follow-up when an answer is incomplete.
- Summarise what you understood and thank the person.
Common pitfalls
- Asking all questions at once without listening.
- Forgetting your role and answering instead of asking.
- Using only one question structure.
Practice prompts (Vocalyra original practice)
Task 3: expressing a point of view
You speak spontaneously, continuously and convincingly about a question, and the examiner may ask follow-up questions. It tests argumentation and fluency.
How to prepare
- Practise giving a clear position within 10 seconds.
- Build a stock of reusable example areas: health, work, environment, family, technology.
- Practise nuance: advantages, limits, conditions.
Answer framework (not a script)
- Rephrase the question.
- State your position.
- Argument 1 with an example.
- Argument 2 with an example.
- A concession or counter-argument.
- Short conclusion.
Common pitfalls
- Listing ideas without explaining them.
- Changing position halfway through.
- Stopping after one minute.
Practice prompts (Vocalyra original practice)
- Vocalyra original practice 1: « Faut-il limiter l'usage de la voiture dans le centre des grandes villes ? » Donnez votre opinion et justifiez-la.
- Vocalyra original practice 2: « Le télétravail rend-il les équipes moins solidaires ? » Qu'en pensez-vous ?
- Vocalyra original practice 3: « Apprendre une langue avec une application suffit-il pour la parler couramment ? » Défendez votre point de vue.
Sample response outline: Plan d'exemple (tâche 3, prompt 1) : reformuler la question → annoncer votre position nuancée → argument 1 + exemple (air, bruit) → argument 2 + exemple (commerces, accès) → concession (personnes âgées, livraisons) → conclusion courte.
The outlines show structure only. Build your own sentences each time; examiners hear memorised answers easily and they rarely fit the question exactly.
Self-review checklist
- Did I answer the actual question?
- Did I keep speaking for most of the time?
- In Task 2, did I get every piece of information I planned?
- Did I give reasons and examples, not just opinions?
- Did I vary tenses and connectors?
- Could a listener follow my structure?
